Laser Hair Removal 101
Posted on by AdminHair, hair go away, don’t come back another day. Is there such a thing? Well, permanent hair removal? No, but we can cut back the density and reduce your unwanted hair for a period of time.
What is Laser Hair Removal?
Using a medical laser, an intense pulsating beam of light passes through the skin and heats up the individual hair follicle. The heat weakens the follicle and then inhibits future hair growth. Laser hair removal can effectively slow down hair growth but does not guarantee permanent hair removal. It could take multiple treatments to provide an extended hair free period. Maintenance may be required in the future.
Who can get it?
Since laser is attracted to pigment, it is most effective on people who are fair skinned with dark hair. Skin color does influence the success of laser hair removal and there are some people who may be resistant to laser treatments. In some cases, hair may even grow back in or around the treated areas. For most, the hair should grow back finer and lighter. Results may vary from person to person and also depends on what area of the body or face is being treated. For example, it would be best for a teenager to finish growing before undergoing laser hair removal, as hormones play a part in hair growth. Women who are entering menopause can have hair grow in places they never have before. Men who would like to treat the little patch on the top of their cheekbones, that can be a tricky area as the facial hair there can be quite strong and may take several treatments before the texture of the hair changes. In the end, laser hair removal can help prolong the duration of hair loss but hair regrowth is still possible. For best results we recommend to start at 6-8 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart with periodic maintenance treatments at once every 6 -12 months or as needed.
