CO2 Laser Resurfacing
Posted on by AdminWhat is CO2 Laser Resurfacing?
Considered one of the top anti aging skin resurfacing treatments, CO2 laser uses carbon dioxide to vaporize the top outer layers of the skin to reveal a tighter, smoother, thicker and more youthful looking complexion. This advanced laser technology precisely removes every other skin cell by creating thousands of tiny microscopic pixels spaced evenly across the skin. Each microscopic pixel stimulates new collagen growth creating renewal and repair to damaged skin. The fractionated laser will target fine lines, wrinkles, skin laxity; thinning skin, scars (including acne, chicken pox and surgical scars), sun damaged skin, Pigmented lesions, textural irregularities and enlarged pores.
Is the procedure painful?
Topical anesthetic and pain medication make the treatment quite manageable. Afterwards you will experience a heat sensation like a sunburn. Recovery time can vary from between 1-2 weeks.
We sat down with one of our amazing clients who has now had two CO2 treatments and asked her some of the questions you may be asking yourself right now about this revolutionary treatment. See our conversation with her below!
What is your age? 62
When did you have your first CO2 treatment? I had my first treatment in the Fall of 2013. My second treatment was done in the fall of 2015 and I will be having another treatment this Fall. I am on a 2 year cycle with my CO2 treatments.
What areas of your body have you treated with CO2?
I have had the CO2 procedure on my full face, chest, neck and hands.
What are your overall thoughts about CO2 treatments and the results you have personally seen?
I have seen a substantial difference over the years from my CO2 treatments. CO2 has met the goals I entered with before my first treatment. After the healing process has completed following each treatment, my skin feels and looks beautiful. My smile and laugh lines are gone! The treatments have stood the test of time and I see a consistent positive difference in my skin every day.
Before your first CO2 treatment, you must have had some concerns and fears? Would you mind sharing those with us?
Before my first treatment I was a combination of eager and excited mixed with nervousness of the unknown. I had already been doing regular treatments such as facials, which I still do, but I was ready for something even more impactful aggressive. CO2 with as the big one. I wanted to look and feel better and that desire was stronger than my fears so I went ahead with the treatment.
If you were looking to make a big impact on the overall appearance of your skin, why did you choose CO2 treatments over something like a surgical facelift?
I wasn’t ready, nor did I want to take the risk of something like surgery. Based on my research and information provided to me by Dr. Soni, CO2 seemed like a very good option for a results-based non-surgical procedure.
What were your physical and emotional feelings while getting your first CO2 treatment?
I honestly didn’t feel much because of the freezing. I felt a snapping sensation on my skin while the treatment was being done but it wasn’t painful per se. In the hours following the treatment, once the freezing wore off, there was some discomfort and my skin was hot. I think during the treatment I was also at ease (once we actually started and it really didn’t hurt that much) because Dr. Soni and the staff at Rejuva had well-prepared me. I watched the video provided and was very aware of how the treatment would proceed.
How would you describe the healing process?
This I need to address as two separate items. The healing process of the first and second treatment were vastly different. It is like the second time around my skin had learned what would happen and healed extremely quickly – within one week I was back to my regular routine.
The first CO2 treatment I had in the fall of 2013 was a completely different story – I did not leave my house for 2 weeks. Overall it took approximately one month to completely heal from my first treatment. The day immediately following my first treatment my skin had a strong burning sensation and I peeled a lot those first few weeks! Once the burning sensation began, I found ice, as recommended by Dr. Soni, helped to ease my discomfort. I am very fortunate to have a support system at home who helped me in those initial weeks following my first treatment. Since I had my hands treated, I was not able to get my hands wet – no dishes! I had assistance from my family with applying the take-home topical creams I was given too.
So to clarify, you said the first healing process for the first treatment was challenging, but the second treatment your healing process was much easier?
Yes the healing time and overall experience was much easier and quicker after my second treatment. It only took about a week to heal and get back to my regular routine after the second treatment.
Do you have any advice for someone who may be considering the treatment but still on the fence about it being right for them?
First, you will have a face like a baby! It is worth it and there is nothing to fear!
Secondly, be prepared. Talk to your doctor; read and watch any material they give you to prepare you for the treatment. Make sure you have someone at home who can help you in those first weeks following the treatment – you will need assistance with some of the basic things you do on a daily basis. If you work out of the home, make sure you take a minimum of 2 weeks off to allow yourself the time you need to stay home and heal. Follow the pre and post steps that your doctor gives you rigorously!
Our last question, will you do CO2 treatments again? Yes! I am having another treatment this fall.
